Ms. Kansier,
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) will apply to the United
States Department of the Interior for the trust acquisition of 80 acres of land owned by
the SMSC. This parcel is known as the Dolan parcel. This proposed action consists
of transfer of ownership from the SMSC to the United States Government in trust for
the SMSC. This will result in a shift in regulatory jurisdiction from the State of
Minnesota to the SMSC and the federal government. The SMSC is preparing an
environmental assessment of the proposed action to comply with the National
Environmental Policy Act and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.
The SMSC requests any relevant information, including documentation of endangered
species, which may be applicable to the proposed action. The legal description of the
land is S ~ of the SW lf4 Sec 28 T115N R22W. A portion of this land was
historically used in agriculture. This land is currently has a fallow hayfield, a
parkway, a parking lot and is used in stormwater management. The hayfield may be
the site of tribal institutional development. The land sits between existing tribal trust
lands with government and gaming facilities.
Comments from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, the Minnesota Department of
Natural Resources and the Scott County have also been requested.
Thank you,
-p~ f!~
