Below is my process in evaluating the Top Gun Technology project as an unseparated use per 2006 mc Section
508.3.2 Non Separated Occupancies.
508.3.2.1
The building has an existing fire sprinkler and alarm system which will be modified to
comply with NFP A 13 requirements and the non separated occupancies are individually
classified in the submitted documents, each occupancy group complies with the
requirements of that occupancy.
The allowable areas by occupancy, per table 503, are:
B 23,000 s.t: x 300% (sprinkler increase per 506.3) = 69,000 s.f.
S-2 26,000 s.f. x 300% (sprinkler increase per 506.3) = 78,000 s.f.
Per the most restrictive occupancy, B, the project allowable square footage is 69~000 s.t:

Re: Occupancy Separation Requirements
Matt,
Regarding the building inspector's requirement of a 2 hour fire wall between the B and S-l occupancies at Top
Gun Technologies; It is this office's belief that no occupancy separation is required between the Band S-l
occupancies for this project, due to the following assumptions:
A. Top Gun Technologies is the current leasee and occupant of the spaces designated in the three phases of
work, therefore no rated party wall should be required.
B. The total floor area is less than the allowable area in 2006 IBC table 503 for the most restrictive use,
occupancy type S-l allows 52,500 s.f. with sprinkler increase, allowing the space to be considered a
non-separated use per section 508.3.2. Future expansion in to the space west of the office will not
increase the total floor area over the allowable area.
