Dear Larry.
Thank you for considering Encompass for your ventilation. heating. and cooling needs. After taking a
look at the gym location at 5500 Cottonwood Lane in Prior Lake and reviewing the OCcupancy
requirements, I am pleased to inform you that the existing mechanical system(s) are capable of
delivering the ventilation to the space as required.
Through air test and balance it was confinned that the existing 6 ton Carrier roof top unit (model #
48TJE007---511--) is delivering 2280 cubic feet per minute (cfin) of air to the gymnasium space. Of
this 2280 cfm. 525 cfin is outside air being brought in directly through the manual outside air damper of
the Carner roof top unit. Upon initial inspection of the unit, this outside air damper was found in the
closed position. The damper is now in the full Open position and should be left in that position to meet
your ventilation needs. In addition, the fan switch of the thermostat should remain in the "on" position
(during occupancy) such that the fan of the roof top unit is running continuously to supply outside air to
the space.
According to ASHRAE Standard 62-1989 - Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, the outdoor
air ventilation rate of 525 cfm is sufficient for a maximum of 70 individuals within the space
considering it as an intermittent or variable OCCupancy (based. on 15 cfin of outside air per individual
with note to the following). "Where peak: oCCupancies ofless that three hours duration occur, the
outdoor air flow rate may he determined on the basis of average OCcupancy for buildings for the duration
of operation of the system. provided the average OCCUpancy used is not less that 'one-half the maximum. "
(ASHRAE Standard 62-1989.6.1.3.4).
