RE: Inspection - 2892 Center Road Southwest
Prior Lake, Minnesota
Per your request, a site visit was conducted on September 18, 2002 to
evaluate subqrade soils for the construction of a porch and deck
addition to an existing single family residence.
Located at the rear northeast section of the residence, 1 cores had
been placed for Sono-tube installation and pier construction. Three
of the piers will provide support for the increased loads of the four
season porch.
Soils extracted from the approx. 44 inch deep core holes, indicted
a dark organic clay loam, most likely landscape fill soils- A
handauger probe conducted at the base of the center core hole
indicated medium soft organic soils and wetland vegetation to a depth
of approx. 4 1/2 feet. Underlying soil consisted of a moist, grey
clay and trace granular with acceptable loadbearing capacity.
Although a elevated level of soil moisture was apparent, no ground
water migration was observed.
It is recommended that the porch pier excavations be increased in
depth approx. 4 1/2 feet to achieve competent soils. At the
contractors option, a full depth pier may be poured, or backfilled
~ith a free draining granular to provide a min. 48 inch frost footing
depth.
In our opinion, with the noted recommendations, the observed subgrade
soils are acceptable for construction.
