BOX 616 SHAKOPEE, MN 55379-0616 952-445-7993 Ms. Diane Little 3592 Willow Beach Trail, SW Prior Lake, MN 55372 Re: Garage Addition, Single Family Residence, 3592 Willow Beach Trail, SW, Prior Lake, 'MN Dear Ms. Little: This morning I inspected you garage addition and understand that you are proposing to construct a 12 foot high wall so that you can accommodate a motor home or camper in the garage. You said that there was some question as to the use of 2"x6" studs, 16" on center. In viewing the conditions at the site, the garage is set down (generally) in the surrounding terrain and in a development where neighbors are relatively close. Therefore, one would design wind forces with a reduction in wind forces based on the garages proximity to the surrounding ground. The contractor was going to use chip-board sheathing. I requested that he use 5/8" CDX plywood as sheathing thoroughly nailed or stapled to the 2"x6" studs. I also approved a spacing of the studs at 16" D.C. if the plywood was used. It was not indicated on you plans that you would have any windows in the garage on the gable end. Therefore, I approve the 2"x6" construction as detailed above, The plywood will strengthen the walls considerably. I didn't think that another drawing was necessary. This should give the 2"x6" wall added strength so that wind forces will be satisfied by the design. I hereby certify that this letter report has been prepared by me or under my direct supervision and that I am a duly registered Professional Civil Engineer under the laws of the State of Minnesota and the State of Wisconsin.
