Prior Lake, MN 55372-1714 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT JULY 7, 2008 5G JANET RINGBERG, LICENSE CLERK CONSIDER APPROVAL OF TEMPORARY ON-SALE INTOXICATING LIQUOR LICENSE FOR PRIOR LAKE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOR LAKEFRONT DAYS The Prior Lake Chamber of Commerce is requesting a temporary on-sale intoxicating liquor license in order to sell beer and to hold a wine tasting event during Lakefront Days. This is the fourth year the Chamber of Commerce will host a wine tasting. This year it will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. The state requires a temporary on-sale intoxicating license rather than a 3.2 liquor license for a wine tasting. This also allows the sale of 3.2 and strong beer. This license will be valid Tuesday, July 29; Wednesday, July 30; Friday, August 1; and Saturday, August 2, 2008. The license will not be needed for Thursday, August 1, as this is the evening of the City-sponsored ice cream social. Dram shop insurance will be carried through United States Liability Insurance Group. The Prior Lake Police Department has found no reason to deny the application. The Chamber of Commerce will pay to have a security officer present at the tent on all days of the event. The City Council has the following alternatives: 1. Adopt a motion as part of the consent agenda approving the temporary on-sale intoxicating liquor license for the Prior Lake Chamber of Commerce. 2. Deny the temporary on-sale intoxicating liquor license request. Staff recommends Council approve the temporary on-sale intoxicating liquor license for the Prior Lake Chamber of Commerce for July 29, 30, and August 1 and 2, 2008.
