FOR SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 PRIMARY AND NOVEMBER 4, 2008
GENERAL ELECTIONS
DISCUSSION:
Introduction
A primary and general election are scheduled for this Fall on Tuesday,
September 9 and Tuesday, November 4,2008 respectively for the
purpose of electing candidates for the following offices:
FEDERAL
President
United States Senate
United States Representative
STATE
State Representative
JUDICIAL
Supreme, Appeals & District Court Judges
COUNTY
Commissioner
Soil & Water Supervisors (3)
As part of the election process, the City Council must authorize the
appointment of election judges to conduct the Election Day activities.
The polling places for the eight (8) voting precincts are located as
follows along with their current registered voter count:

ALTERNATIVES:
Total registered voter count is presently 13,419. The polls shall be open
from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The attached election judge list indicates
two election judge chairs for each precinct by the @ symbol. The judges
will report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the poll
openings for set-up preparation. Their compensation shall be $8.50 per
hour as approved within this year's operating budget.
The following alternatives are available to the City Council:
RECOMMENDED
MOTION:
1. Approve the election judge appointments for the 2008 Primary
and General elections.
2. Table this item for a specific reason.
Motion to approve as part of the consent agenda is in order recommend
approval of the attached list of election judges by precinct. Staff has
contacted the judges and each has expressed interest in serving in this
year's elections.
