CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE
OF MATERIALS FOR REPAIR OF PIKE LAKE PARK HOUSE AND GARAGE
ROOFS
Introduction
The purpose of this agenda is to seek authorization for the funding necessary to
repair the roofs on the house and garage at Pike Lake Park (formally the Pavlish
property).
Historv
At the September 4,2007, City Council meeting, Council approved an agreement
with the Trust for Public Land for the purchase of 30 acres; formally the Pavlish
Property, to be known as Pike Lake Park, Included in the purchase of the
property were the existing dwellings. The existing dwellings are in relatively good
condition and have been secured by staff for future use as a storage garage and
four season park facility.
Current Circumstances
Staff has determined that both the house and garage roofs are in immediate need
of repair. The existing shingles are deteriorated to the point that the roofs could
start leaking, resulting in damage to the under layment and building interiors.
If a new roof is not installed on the house and garage soon, structural damage is
certain to occur. The Parks Maintenance Division staff can perform the labor to
remove the existing shingles and install new 30 year architectural shingles.
The following is the cost to replace the roofs on the house and garage:
I 35 square of 30 year architectural shingles
100 L.F, of hip and ridge shingles
530 L. F. of ice and water paper
35 square of felt
450 L.F, of D-edge
10 roof vents
I 4 plumbing stacks
I 10 4x8 ass plywood
I 3 boxes 1 X coil nails

Funding for the repair of these roofs was not identified in the 2008 Budget.
$275,000 was budgeted in the General Fund for contingencies; and after this
expenditure, the balance of unspent contingency funds will be $178,968.
ALTERNATIVES: The alternatives are as follows:
1. Authorize City staff to repair the roofs on the house and garage at Pike Lake
Park for an amount not to exceed $6,032.16 for materials.
2. Table this agenda item for a specific reason.
3, Deny this agenda item for a specific reason and provide staff with direction.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF MATERIALS FOR THE REPAIR OF THE
PIKE LAKE HOUSE AND GARAGE ROOFS

WHEREAS, The City has previously determined that the existing house and garage at Pike Lake
Park should be preserved for future use; and
WHEREAS, Staff has determined that both the house and garage roofs are in immediate need of
repair at Pike Lake Park; and
WHEREAS, If the roofs are not repaired, structural damage can occur; and
WHEREAS, The Parks Maintenance Division staff can perform the labor necessary to repair the
roofs; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE,
MINNESOTA as follows:
1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein.
2, All materials for the repair shall be purchased for a total price not to exceed $6,032.16.
3. Funds are to be drawn from account # 101-49999-000.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 17TH DAY OF NOVEMBER 2008.
