HomeMy WebLinkAbout5H - Resolution Accepting Donations and Grants to the City AGENDA ITEM: DISCUSSION: ISSUES: FINANCIAL IMPACT: ALTERNATIVES: RECOMMENDED MOTION: Review(c;' JY: 1 ~ F< .\COi nlcll\20D,) CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATIONS AND GRANTS TO THE CITY DURING THE 1sT QUARTER OF 2009 Introduction The purpose of this agenda item is to consider acceptance of donations and grants made to the City during January, February, and March of 2009. Histol"l Minnesota State statute 465.03 requires that the City accept a grant or devise of real or personal property and maintain such property for the benefit of its citizens in accordance with the terms prescribed by the donor. In addition to being a legal requirement, this resolution encourages transparency in government and accountability. Current Circumstances A resolution has been prepared that identifies the donations and grants that were received during the 1 st quarter of 2009 and the terms in which they were presented. If a donation or grant was accepted under separate resolution, it has not been included in this current list. While it is certainly our intent to include all donations and grants for the 1st quarter of 2009, we recognize that we may have inadvertently missed some. Those will be addressed in subsequent resolutions. Conclusion Staff is requesting that the Council accept the donations and grants received. Staff intends to seek Council acceptance of donations and grants each quarter during the year. This agenda item allows City Council to publicly recognize the donations and grants made to the City in the interest of transparency. Certain donations and grants and their corresponding expenditures are reflected in the annual budget due to their recurring nature, i.e. Clean Up Day grant. Acceptance of additional donations and grants may result in additional or offsetting expenditures depending on the terms prescribed by the donor. 1. Approve the resolution accepting donations and grants received by the City during the 1st quarter of 2009 as presented. 2. Delay action if the Council requires additional information. Alternative #1 - Motion and second to adopt the resolution to accept donations and grants received by the City during January, February, and March of 2009 as pre7nted. \\ ~A"N. eit)'()ij9rierlake. com :)gB~D(~Pts~(~ 7 r~~lgg()~ ~M (~f%~!~*3e~~i~eport. doc A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATIONS AND GRANTS TO THE CITY DURING THE 1 ST QUARTER OF 2009 Motion By: Second By: WHEREAS, MN Statute 465.03 requires that cities accept donations for the benefit of its citizens in accordance with the terms prescribed by the donor; and WHEREAS, The City has received the following donations of money, goods or property during January, February, and March of 2009: I Donor Value Desiqnated Use Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community $ 90,000.00 Police and Fire P.LAB.BA 3,097.00 Windscreen fabric at Memorial Park Martha Bonneau Non-cash 25" color TV for Teen Hang Out Days at Club Prior Granting Agency Local Road Research Board Project Blind Lake Research Project Description of Project Anti-ice Application Unit Grant Period 2009 Award Amount $ 4,000.00 Dept Public Works Metropolitan Emergency Services Board (MESB) Public Safety Interoperable Communications Grant (PSI C) MHz 800 Equipment 2009 $ 4,073.41 Police NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA as follows: 1.
