am providing you with "red-lined" drawings indicating the minimum structural member sizes to be
incorporated into your drawings. I am also providing you with structural notes and two details for
this project. My design work pertains to the structural elements of the deck addition and only
those portions of the existing building affected by the new work.

SOIL BEARING DESIGN VALUE
2,000 p.s.f. on undisturbed soil or compacted fill for footings.
Bearing value to be verified by a geotechnical engineer.
EXISTING CONDITIONS
Verify all dimensions, elevations, and details of existing structures where they affect this
construction. Notify engineer if there are any deviations from the contract documents. Field
verify dimensions and elevations prior to fabrication of structural members.
TEMPORARY BRACING
Provide temporary lateral support for all walls until walls are adequately braced by floor or roof
structure.
FOOTINGS
Wall footings are cast-in-place concrete with continuous reinforcing placed 3" clear of bottom and
sides. Unless otherwise noted, column footings are centered under columns.
DIMENSION LUMBER
Dimension lumber shall be NO.2 preservative treated Southern Pine or equal for joists and
beams. Spacing of bridging for joists shall not exceed 8'-0". All beams and joists not bearing on
supporting members shall be framed with "Simpson Strong-Tie" joist hangers or equal. Wood
joists shall bear the full width of supporting members (stud wall, beams, etc.) unless otherwise
noted. Wood beams made of 2 or more 2x's shall be bolted together with 3/8" diameter through
bolts at 2'-0" on center or equivalent spikes. Nailing to be in accordance with Table 2304.9.1 of
the I.B.C.
