HomeMy WebLinkAboutEDAC Meeting Notes 04-03-09CITY OF PRIOR LAKE Economic Development Advisory Committee Meeting Friday, April 3, 2009 Meetin4 Summary Present: ^ Committee Members -Capra, Fleck, Howard, Henry, Plaisted, Presler, and Viereck, ^ Staff -Parr ^ Council Liaison -Erickson 1. Approved April 3, 2009 Agenda. 2. Approved February 27, 2009, meeting summary. 3. Nomination and vote of 2009 Chair, Vice-Chair, and Subcommittees. ^ Members requested to wait until the next meeting to determine if an absent member wanted to serve as the 2009 EDAC Chair. EDAC Members unanimously deferred the nomination and vote for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions to the next EDAC Meeting. 4. Review of CSAH 21 plan • Larry Poppler, Assistant City Engineer, answered questions and presented information related to the CSAH 21 plan for future realignment and access. 5. Research ^ Staff shared research regarding how other EDAC's in the country function. Many EDAC's tend to have the following characteristics: 1. Tend to often be on a County or regional basis. 2. Many are non-profit entities. 3. Some actively use marketing firms. • Staff recommended EDAC members look at the EDAC page for the Town of Newton, Connecticut. Newton has a similar population and appearance. Newton appears to be forward thinking in the following ways: 1. Have a business incentive program-active 2. They created astand-alone Strategic Plan for Economic Development. EDAC created the document and implements the strategies. 3. Creating an incubator/technology park. 6. Reviewed the draft 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan Update • Read through the draft Downtown Development Goals and Objectives • Read through the draft Economic Development Goals and Objectives 7. Discussed Development and Ongoing City Initiatives ^ Staff and Erickson discussed the redevelopment potential of the Crossroads site (located south of CSAH 42, west of MN TH 13, and east of Timothy Avenue). 8.
