CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION MAKING APPOINTMENTS TO
THE TRAFFIC SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
Introduction
The purpose of this agenda item is to request Council approval of interview
committee recommendations for appointments to the Traffic Safety Advisory
Committee.
History
The bylaws of the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee calls for three-year terms
beginning on November 1 of the year of appointment.
Current Circumstances
In September we advertised for candidates to all the advisory bodies for which
there were openings up to the maximum number of allowed members.
Appointments to the Community Safety Advisory Committee, Communications
and Technology Advisory Committee, Lakes Advisory Committee and Planning
Commission were made at the October 19, 2009, Council Meeting.
Interviews for the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee were conducted on October
21, 2009. For your information, the applications for all of the candidates are
attached.

The process and participants defined in the bylaws for interviewing was followed.
The interview committee recommends appointment of Ms. Rebholz to an initial
two year term so there is some staggering of the three terms. The resolution has
been prepared with that in mind.

FINANCIAL There is cost of staff time in supporting advisory committees. This cost is offset
IMPACT: by having citizens active in local government affairs.
ALTERNATIVES: 1. Adopt the resolution approving the recommendations for appointment as
submitted by the sub-committees.
2. Adopt the resolution with amendments.
3. Take no action and direct the staff accordingly.

Current Occupation: Rates Analyst, Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Use
knowledge of energy and telecommunications. utilities to compile and analyze data and
policy issues to present to a panel of five Commissioners. In addition, assist in
administering low-income telephone and energy utility assistance programs.

I have been a resident of Prior Lake for the last two and a half years, having moved
here from Hutchinson, Minnesota. Since moving here, my husband and I have had our
first child; we are invested in staying in the community and contributing to the
betterment of Prior Lake. During my eight-plus years working for the state of
Minnesota, I have acquired skills and knowledge that I believe could be applied to
benefit Prior Lake and its residents.

volumes continue to build in our community; road maintenance and signage are
significant contributors to safety. Driving behaviors of course are the most critical factors
contributing to our safety on the road and 1"11 work to positively influence same.
