R~~~~~ NOV 1 81995 You apparently do not have any information as to how we were informed about the hydrant as I do not believe we were informed in any manner whatsoever. This is most unfortunate. If we had been informed in a timely manner, we could have very easily called upon Alta Mechanical to make the corrections. In fact, we had a holdback on the general contractor for at least six months after this work was completed. In addition, we had a guarantee from Alta Mechanical for one year, which unfortunately expired July 11, 1995. I tried to call Alta Mechanical several times in the past couple of days but I received a recording. I have left my number, but Don Grendahl does not return my call. I also tried to call you today, Friday, November 24th but learned that the City officed were closed. Let's call each other during this coming week and get this matter resolved. Burdick Burdick Properties 684 Excelsior Boulevard Excelsior, MN 55331 RE: FIRE HYDRANT AT NORTHI.AKE OFFICE BUkLDING #2 14180 COMMERCE AVENUE - , ~~ , Dear Mr. Burdick: The fire hydrant which was installed by Alta Mechanical on July 11, 1994, as part of the building construction project at the location referenced above viras found to be non-operational when city personnel attempted to flush it during our 1995 fall flushing program. Our records indicate that there was a similar problem with this same hydrant in the spring of 1995. I do not have any informarion as to how you and/or Alta Mechanical were notified of this deficiency at that time or whether repans were made. Please arrange for service of this hydrant immediately. Public Works Supervisor poug-Hartman must be notified as to,the time when tlie service will take place so that he . or his representative can be present. He can be reached at 447-4230. ~ Other items related to this hydrant have not been completed. They are as follows: 1. The flag on the hydrant does not meet city specifications and it must be replaced with the proper flag. . 2. The hydrant does not meet the city specifications regarding the 24" distance from the ground surface to the centerline of the operating nut on the nozzles. The hydrant must be extended with the appropriate factory extension kit. I have enclosed a copy of the detail from the city specifications illustrating the proper installation related to items 1 and 2 above. Please keep Doug Hartman informed as to the progress on the items above.
