Glass Bulb Automatic Sprinklers
Manula~lured by: 'Central Sprinkler Company

___ Product
~Dlscription
The Central Model GB EC
Automatic Sprinklers embrace the
ultimate in advanced design features.
They incorporate the latest in glass
bulb technology, which result in a
much smaller, more attractive
sprinkler. The operating mechanism
consists of a liquid-filled 3 mm
diameter frangible capsule that is only
_ 20 mm In length. .
The Model GB EC Automatic
Sprinklers are intended for installation
in accordance with current NFPA 13
and NFPA 13R Standards. They are
available in 1/2'(1'.7mm) orifice
sizes and 15S'F/68.3'C or 200'F/
93.3'C temperature ratings. The
Model GB EC Sprinklers are
available w"h two standard
finishes, brass or chrome plated
and with two coatings, black or
white, with additional special
painted finishes available upon
request.
Operation: The glass bulb
capsule operating mechanism
contains a heat-sensillve liquid
that expands upon application of
heat. Upon reaching the rated
temperature, the frangible capsule
ruptures thereby releesing the
orifice seal. The sprinkler then
discharges water in a pre.designed
spray pattern to control or
extinguish the fire.

The Model GB. EC Automatic: Sprinklers
are intended for extended area cover-
ages end flow and pressure requirements
as specified in this literature.
~ Inlltallatlo~
,
All Central Model GB EC Automatic
Sprinklers must bit installed according to
current NFPA 13 and NFPA 13R
Standards. Deviations from these
requirements and standards or any
alteration to the sprinkler itself will void
any warranty made by Central Sprinkler
Company. In addition, installation must
also meet lo<::al government provisions,
codes, and standards as applicable.
The system piping must be properly
sized to ensure the minimum required fiow
rate at the sprinkler.
Check for the proper model, style, orifice
size, and temperature rating prior to
installation. Install sprinklers after the
piping is in place to avoid mechanical
damage; replace any damaged units.
Wet pipe systems must be protected from
freezing,
Upon completion of the installation, the
system must be tested per recognized
standards.
In the event of a thread leak, remove the
unit, apply new pipe joint compound or
tape, and reinstall.
Inatallatlon Sequence
Step 1. The unit must be installed in the
pendent position for pendent sprinklers.
and in the sidewall position for sidewall
sprinklers.
Step 2. Use only a non-hardening pipe
joint compound or Teflon' tape. Apply
only to male threads.
Step 3. Install the sprinkler according to
the dimensions shown in the Installation
diagrams on pages two and three of this
technical bulletin. For recessed
applications, do not use the push-on
escutcheon plate to hold the unit In
position, The sprinkler will only function
properly when anchored to the building
structure.

tangential foree of 14 to 28 Ibs. (62.3 to

TorQue levels over 21 fl.-Ibs. (2B.6 Nm)

Tha Model GB-QR Automatic Sprin.
klers are Intended for standard area
coverages and flow and pressure re-
quirements as specified in current NFPA
Standards for quick response sprinklers.
~ Installatiop
All Central Model GS-QR Automatic
Sprinklers must be installed according to
current NFPA Standards. Deviations
from these requirements and standards
or any alteration to the sprinkler Itself will
void any warranty made by Centrel
Sprinkler Company. In addition,
Installation must also meet local
government previsions, ecdes, and
standards as applicable.
The system piping must be properly
sized to ensure the minimum required
flow rate at the sprinkler.
Check for the proper model. style,
orifice size, and temperature rating prior
to installation. Install sprinklers after the
piping Is in place to avoid mechanical
damage: replace any damaged units.
Wet pipe systems must be protected from
freezing.
Upon completion of the installation, the
system must be tested per recognized
standards.
In the event of a thread leak, remove
the unit. apply new pipe joint compOund
or tape, and reinstall.
Installation Sequence
Note: Usa the Combination Wrench
For Upright Sprinklers and the GB
Sprinkler Wrench For Pendent and
Sidewall Sprinklers.
Step 1. 'The unit must be installed in the
upright position for the upright style
sprinklers or In the pendent position for
pendent sprinklers, and In the sidewall
position for sidewall sprinklers.
Step 2. Use only a non-hardening pipe
joint compound or Teflon' lape. Apply
only to male threads.
Step 3. Install the sprinkler according to
the dimensiona shown In the in.tallation
diagrams on pages two and three of this

ppllcations, do not use the push-on
scutcheon plate to hold the unit in
osition. The sprinkler will only
mction properly when anchored to the

Jpright and sidewall sprinklers, to
ighten the unit into the fitting. A leak-
