CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
JUNE 7, 2010
5C
JANET RINGBERG, LICENSE CLERK
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A TEMPORARY LIQUOR LICENSE EXTENSION
FOR THE BASEMENT BAR & GRILL (July 17,2010)
Introduction
The purpose of this agenda item is to consider approval of a temporary exten-
sion of the on-sale intoxicating liquor license held by The Basement Bar & Grill
for Saturday, July 17, 2010.
Historv
The Basement Bar & Grill currently has an on-sale intoxicating liquor license
which allows them to sell liquor on the premises of their restaurant and bar, lo-
cated at 16691 Highway 13 South. The Basement Bar & Grill has held this li-
cense since 2008.
Current Circumstances
The Basement Bar & Grill is planning an event to commemorate their second
anniversary. This anniversary celebration will be held on Saturday, July 17,
2010 from 5:00 PM until 1 0:00 PM. It will take place in a fenced in area on the
northeast and northwest sides of their building and a live band will perform from
7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The fenced in area will not impact traffic flow on old
Toronto. The city has approved the outdoor event permit required for the live
band. A temporary extension of the liquor license premise will allow them to
sell liquor in the fenced in area for this event. The only access to the outdoor
area would be through the building on the northeast side, as required by City
Ordinance Section 301.1500. Only a service bar will be allowed in the outdoor
area. The Basement Bar & Grill plans to have employees and security person-
nel working at this event to ensure liquor is not sold to minors and that it is con-
sumed in the licensed area only.
Conclusion
The Police Department has reviewed the application to ensure that all require-
ments and issues concerning compliance and public safety have been met.
The Basement Bar & Grill has paid the $200.00 outdoor event permit fee and
the $25.00 temporary liquor license extension fee for this event.
ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve a temporary liquor license extension for The Basement Bar &
Grill for Saturday, July 17, 2010.
2. Deny the license request.
