CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
November 5, 2001 ._~1-~

AGENDA ITEM: PRIOR LAKE CHLORIDE SAMPLING PROGRAM
PRESENTATION: Months ago, the City Council directed that the staff conduct a water sampling
program for Prior Lake. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time any
systematic effort has been made in this regard. The purpose of the program was
to determine the amount of chloride entering Prior Lake. Chloride is the
ingredient in salt which can be harmful to lake habitat. Presumably, if we know
how much chloride is entering the Lake, and the source, we can take steps to
minimize the problem and in the process preserve Lake water quality.
Accordingly, a program has been initiated which includes sampling sites on
Upper and Lower Prior Lake. While the sampling program is on-going, Lani
Leichty will provide the City Council with a report of the efforts to date.
No Council action is required.
