CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
June 4, 2001
8B
BUD OSMUNDSON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BIDS AND
AWARDING THE CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
PUMPHOUSE FOR WELL NO.6, CITY PROJECT NO. 02-00
History
At the April 16, 2001 regularly scheduled meeting, the City Council approved the plans
and specifications and authorized the advertisement for bids for the construction of the
pumphouse for Well Number 6. At the May 7, 2001 meeting a conditional use permit
to construct a pumphouse at 15250 Wilds Parkway was approved by the City Council.
The purpose of this agenda item is to accept the bids and award a contract to the lowest
responsible bidder for the construction ofthe pumphouse for Well No.6.
Bids were received and opened on May 24, 2001 at lOam. A total of two bids were
received and the bids have been checked and tabulated. The low bid was submitted by
Municipal Builders, Incorporated of Andover, MN in the amount of $365,500. The
remaining bids are itemized on the attached resolution. The engineer's estimate was
$402,000.
The drilling and development of the well is proceeding under a separate contract with
Keys Well Drilling, and should be completed in June. This should allow a smooth
transition for the pumphouse contractor to move onto the well site and begin
construction in July with a completion date in late fall.
BudKet Impact
Sufficient funds are set-aside in the City's Capital Improvement program to construct
the well and pump house. The total cost for the construction of the well, pump house
and appurtenant equipment is now estimated at $705,500, compared to the total cost
estimate at the time of plan and specification approval of $740,000. All items will now
be under contract including $280,000 for the well drilling, $60,000 for engineering and
$365,500 for the pumphouse construction. The Trunk fund is the source of the money.
