HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-124 Auto Water Meter Reading 4646 Dakota Street SE Prior Lake, MN 55372 RESOLUTION 10-124 RESOLUTION DIRECTING CITY STAFF TO PREPARE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR PREQUALIFICATION OF BIDDERS FOR AN AUTOMATED WATER METER READING Motion By: Millar Second By: Keeney WHEREAS, The City utilizes a Fixed Base Automatic Meter Reading System to collect water and sewer billing information that accounts for more than $4.6 million annually; and WHEREAS, The City’s current system installed in 2002 have radio units with 7-12 year battery lives which are not replaceable; and WHEREAS, In order to maintain a reliable system to collect consumption data for the purposes of generating water and sewer billing revenues the City needs to replace the existing system; and WHEREAS, New technology allows the systems to last more than 20 years and the City finds it fiscally prudent to replace existing outdated and failing technology with a system that meets the City’s requirements; and WHEREAS, There are varying technologies available in the market offered by vendors that transmit data regarding sewer and water consumption from the meter within the property to the City; and WHEREAS,In order to ensure that all vendors and their systems meet City requirements the City Staff should prepare the Request for Proposals to prequalify bidders for replacement of the Automatic Meter Reading System. NOWTHEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA as follows: 1.The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein. 2.City Staff is authorized to expend up to $10,000 to retain an experienced consultant to assist the City with the preparation of specifications, vendor criteria and a Request for Proposals for the selection of a replacement automatic water meter reading system. 3.Funding for professional services will be drawn from the Water Fund Account #601-49400-530.
