CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
December 3, 2001 ^ ~
~;ank Boyles, City Manag~
AGENDA ITEM: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF APPOINTMENT OF TWO INDIVIDUALS TO THE
PARK ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
DISCUSSION: History: In October, the terms of Pat Heaney, Ron Ceminsky and Kathy Smith
expired. At the time the Park Advisory Committee had six members. Since the
Park Advisory Committee is intended to be a five member body, only two of the
three vacancies will be filled.
Current Circumstances: We placed notices soliciting applicants in the Prior
Lake American, Wavelength and on the Prior Lake web site. In addition, I sent
letters to PLAY, the Soccer Club, and Library Board. We received applications
from two individuals. Copies of the applications are attached.
Interviews were conducted on Thursday, November 29th. Interviewees included
PAC member Tom Schutz, staff liaison Susan Walsh, City Council liaison Joe
Zieska and myself.
Conclusion: Councilmember Zieska will provide a oral report to the Council
regarding our recommendations for appointment.
ALTERNATIVES: (1) Approve the interview committee's recommendation.
(2) Direct that the interview committee solicit additional candidates.
RECOMMENDED
MOTION: As the Council deems appropriate.

I believe my strong verbal and written communication skills, strong problem
solving/analytical skills, and strong organizational skills would be beneficial in serving
on the Parks Advisory Committee. Additionally, my computer experience with Word
and Excel may also prove to be beneficial if these skills are needed. All these skills have
been developed and strengthened through my work experience at Benfield Blanch.
Lastly, I feel that my common sense is a strength that would prove useful to the Parks
Advisory Committee.
Briefly describe your interest in this position and how you can serve the community:
My husband and I moved to Prior Lake in March 200 I. One of the reasons we chose to
live in Prior Lake was because of its rural. setting. I would like to see Prior Lake
maintain its rural setting. My husband and I are both avid bicyclers and are very
interested in having miles of bike paths/routes to enioy, We also enioy tennis and
appreciate having convenient access to public parks to use tennis courts. We also enioy
cross-country skiing. I also enioy roller blading and ice skating. Having a convenient,
scenic place to go to enioy these activities is important to me. Because I enioy the
outdoors and outdoor recreation, it is important to me that the community in which I
live offers parks/recreational areas in which I can enioy these activities. Because Prior
Lake is growing and is expected to grow even more, I would like to have an impact on
preserving areas for parks and recreational areas, and that is how I feel I can serve the
community.
