CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
March 18, 2002

AI Friedges, Parks Supervisor
Bud Osmundson, Public Works Director
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION APPROVING QUOTES FOR
BLEACHERS.
History: At the February 19, 2002 City Council meeting, the Council authorized
staff to solicif quotes for bleachers in accordance with the purchasing policy for
Thomas Ryan Memorial Park. Quotes have been solicited accordingly and the
purpose of this agenda item is to seek authorization to proceed with the purchase
of four (4) 10-row sets of bleachers. The .funding source is identified in the Parks
Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
Current Circumstances: Bleacher safety requirements have been updated in the:
last few years as the result of injuries to users. Considering these new
requirements, staff solicited quotes from the following vendors:

The bleacher units bid are comparable and contain the required safety features.
The 10-row bleachers will be installed for spectator seating behind the four
baseball and softball fields at Thomas Ryan Park. The bleachers will provide
comfort for spectators while keeping them in an area away from potentially
dangerous field of play.
Conclusion: It is appropriate for the City Council to approve the acquisition of
bleachers so that Thomas Ryan Park will have facilities for spectators when it
opens.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is $35;000 identified in the Capitaj Park Improvement portion of the CIP.
This will be sufficient to fund the $27,184.13 acquisition recommended in this
report.
ALTERNATIVES: (1) Adopt the Resolution authorizing the expenditures for four (4) 10-row sets of
bleachers from St. Croix Recreation Co. Inc. in an amount not to exceed
$27,184.13,
