AGENDA ITEM: PRESENTATION OF PLAQUE TO FORMER COUNCILMEMBER JIM
ERICSON
PRESENTATION: Jim Ericson assumed the position of City Council member on January 1, 2000.
Jim resigned from the Council effective March 8, 2002 because he and his family
moved to Lonsdale to a larger house to accommodate his growing family.
While Jim's tenure on the Council was modest in length, his accomplishments
are considerable. As a Councilmember, Jim worked with one or more members
of the Council and staff to accomplish the following:
· City computers were updated and a system implemented for replacing
technologically deficient equipment as occurs in the private sector.
· The City Council bylaws were comprehensively updated.
· The Downtown .Redevelopment plan was incorporated into the Zoning
Ordinance and, at Jim's suggestion, the City began faqade improvements to
building already owned and those newly purchased to have them conform
to the future look of the Downtown area.
· Jim spear-headed additional parking for fisherpersons at Grainwood and
vehicles with trailers at Sand Point and Lakefront parks.
· Jim advocated for developments with reasonable densities rather than the
maximum allowable in each district.
· He also encouraged that the City acquired land for park dedication
purposes rather than take money. Land acquired by the City was t be multi-
purpose as in the Wilds where City property houses the booster pumps,
Well No. 6 and a neighborhood park.
Given his contributions to the Prior Lake community, it is fitting that former Councilmember Ericson
be recognized this evening and receive a plaque commemorating his efforts on behalf of the Prior
Lake community.
