CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
April 15, 2002
68
PREPARED BY: frank Boyles, City Manager
AGENDA ITEM: PRESENTATION BY MAYOR HAUGEN RECOGNIZING THE
ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF PRIOR LAKE HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS.
PRESENTATION: The national championship won by the University of Minnesota Men's Hockey
Team is hard to ignore given the media attention it receives. What receives far
less attention but is likely more important to Prior Lake residents is the level of
excellence achieved by students of our Prior Lake / Savage High School.
During the winter "season", the accomplishments of four Prior Lake High School
teams deserve our recognition and praise.
Speech: For the first time this year, the Prior Lake Speech team competed in
District 6AA against the metropolitan area schools (Wayzata, Hopkins and
Bloomington are noteworthy examples). Having faced tough competition, the
Speech Team excelled at the competition and will send representatives to the
State Tournament this week. This will be Prior Lake's first representation in the
State Speech competition in a decade. We are proud to recognize the following
students who will compete at the State Tournament: Carl Creighton, Erin
Kennedy, Chelsey Korus, Jessie Wartman). CONGRATULATIONS to each of
them and their coaches Carol Aikey and Carol Ottoson.
Nordic Skiin~:r Despite our mild winter, senior Jennifer Hoffman qualified for
State for the third year in a row. She is joined by Junior Nathan Johnson and
Sophmore David Hoffman. CONGRATULATIONS to each of them and their
coaches Kevin Panzer and David Bale.
WrestlinQ: For the second year in a row, Josh Linquist qualified for the State
Tournament. What is ~ven more impressive is that Josh placed third in the State.
CONGRATULATIONS to Josh and his coach Joe Block.
Girls Basketball: For basketball fans it was hard to miss the outstanding
accomplishments of Prior Lake High School's Girl's Basketball Team who placed
third in the State. Some of you may have watched them play against Marshall on
television. Members of the team include: Mandy Evans, Ryanne Brockhaus, Jen
Bueltel, Adrianne Prettyman, Mesa Heise, Bailey Cross, Jackie Scheele, Becky
Hennen, Justina Roach, Jaye Bueltel, Casie Shepherd, Amanda Chromy, Molly
Sullivan, Tamra Braun, Kendra Meyer. The team is coached by Head Coach Paul
Larson, and Assistant Coaches Todd Kemper and Jon Flatness.
To all our State Tournament participants, THANK YOU for representing Prior
Lake so capably before the metropolitan and State community. We are proud of
each and every one of you!
