PRESENTATION: Since at least 1996, the National Day of Prayer has been observed in Prior Lake through proclamation of the Mayor. Attached is a Proclamation designating May 2, 2002 as National Day of Prayer in Prior Lake. Sue Auldrich is organizing National Day of Prayer Observances for the South-of- the-River communities. In Prior Lake specifically, Connie Perrin is organizing the event for the host church, Minnesota Valley Community Church. A South-of-the- River multi-city celebration is planned for May 2, 2002 at the Burnsville Civi"c Center Amphitheatre. The proclamation of each City will be read at that event. The Planning committee for the observance is requesting that every city I including Prior Lake, have at least one representative present for them to recognize. Attached for your information is background information about the event. Mayor Haugen will read the proclamation. The Council should designate a representative to attend the National Day of Prayer observance. Locally, the National Day of Prayer will be celebrated at 7pm on May 2, 2002 at the Minnesota Valley Community Church at 5995 Timber Trail. We have written to each of the 13 south of the river suburban communities and asked the mayors to endorse National Day of Prayer. We have been very pleased with the response! Connie Perrin has been in touch with us about the Prior Lake plans, and I have spoken to Mayor Haugen about the prayer walk for Prior Lake. You may not need the details of the attached letter, but it is good for you to see what is being sent to all the communities. The reason I am writing to you is to ask your assistance. Weare .asking each city to draft a National Day of Prayer Proclamation that could be read as part of our South of the River Multi-city Celebration. We want to recognize and have a representative from each community at the Bumsville Civic Center Amphitheater celebration May 2, 2002. I understand Mayor Haugen will be out of town fur some time, so he asked me to write to you with this request. If it is helpfut I have enclosed proclamations from other years. Minnesota Valley Community' Church will once again be hosting the prayer service for Prior Lake at 7pm. As in past years, we are asking that the city officials issue a proclamation recognizing the importance of prayer and call upon the residents of Prior Lake to participate. We would also like to extend an invitation to City council members to attend the service. God has been faithful to Prior Lake in the past years. He has provided wisdom for our leadership when called upon. He has blessed the citizens with peace and prosperity, but there is still much to bring before God in prayer. We are 'urged to fIrst of all pray, make requests, intercede, and give thanksgiving on behalf of everyone-for kings and all those in authority. .. .' (1 Timothy 2: 1- 2a). Our theme this year is "America United Under God", and is based on Psalm 46,:1, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble". Prayer is our greatest hope-not just on one special day a year, but every day of our lives. I look forward to hearing from you soon. It is our heart that Christians would unite and bless our communities in prayer prior to the National Day of Prayer observance. South of the River Prayer Walk Saturday.. April 27.3 to 5 p.m. When Jesus sent out His followers into the cities He was about to visit, He instructed them first to "speak peace" to every house- hold they would enter (Luke 10:5). Our goal is to speak the peace of God to homes, businesses, and schools in communities South of the River, or in the words of the Apostle Paul, to pray for everyone, everywhere (1 Timothy 2). It is a quiet, simple invitation to Jesus to come, bring peace and blessing to an area as people walk by. They will pick up a packet with a map and specific instructions on the day of the walk at a central . pick up point in each community. "':""i:_ If you could announce it or put it in your News Letter and Sunday bulletins that would be appreciated. If you have a prayer coordinator, perhaps that person would be the "point" person for your congregation. There is very little work It is just a matter of someone being available to take names as people sign up OR people can go directly to the website to sign up. On the day of the walk people would go to a central site in each community to pick up a packet that has a map.& walk assignment. Since people know their comri1unities, it will be easy to find the school, business, government or resident area they are to walk. A multi- city observance for communities South of the River will be held at the Burnsville Civic Center Amphitheater from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Youth Event following.
