CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ELECTION JUDGE APPOINTMENTS
FOR 2002 PRIMARY & GENERAL ELECTIONS
A primary and general election are scheduled for this fall for
Tuesday, September 10 and Tuesday November 5, 2002 respectively
for the purpose of electing candidates for the following offices:
FEDERAL
United States Senate
United States Representative
STATE
State Senator
State Representative
Governor
Attorney General
Secretary of State
State Auditor
JUDICIAL
Supreme, Appeals & District Court Judges
COUNTY
Commissioner
Attorney
Sheriff
Soil & Water Supervisors (2)
Issues:
The Primary and General elections are the sole responsibility of the
City of Prior Lake from a cost standpoint. As part of the election
process, the City Council must authorize the appointment of election
judges to conduct the Election Day activities, The polling places for
the seven precincts are located as follows along with their current
registered voter count:

Total Registered Voter Count... 9,667
The attached map shows the various precincts. Total registered voter
count is presently 9,667. It is interesting to note the similar size of
precincts 2, 5, 6A and 6B with respect to number of registered
voters. Each precinct will be staffed with 5 election judges. Within
the precincts, there is relative party balance as required by election
law.
The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The judges will
report to their appropriate precinct location one hour priorto the poll
openings for set-up preparation. Their compensation shall be $8.00
per hour.
Conclusion:
Staff would recommend approval of the attached list of election
judges by precinct. Staff has contacted the judges and each has
expressed interest in serving in this year's election.
