CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FULL AND FINAL
PAYMENT TO KLEIN ELECTRIC, INC. FOR THE INSTALLATION OF ATHLETIC FIELD
LIGHTING AT THE PONDS ATHLETIC COMPLEX
HISTORY
On April 1, 2002, the City entered into a contract with Klein Electric, Inc, for the installation
of athletic field lighting at the Ponds Athletic Complex. All the work under the contract has
been completed and this agenda item requests full and final payment.
CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES
The final payment amount is $83,850.00 for a total contract amount of $297,000.00, This is
$3,000.00 over the original contract amount, of $294,000.00 or a variance of 1,0% from the
base bid.
The $3,000,00 change order was a result of additional wire and outlets installed on the
batting cages on Fields #2 and #7 for the operation of pitching machines. The final contract
amount is based upon actual rather than projected contract quantities,
The final payment amount is $83,850.00, The funds will be drawn from the Capital Park
Fund portion of the Capital Improvement Program, The Council will recall that a part of this
project is to be supported by PLAY in the form of a $75,000.00 contribution.
There are three alternatives for the City Council to consider:
1, Approve a resolution authorizing full and final payment to Klein Electric, Inc.
2. Table this agenda item for a specific reason.
3. Deny this agenda item for a specific reason and provide Staff with direction.

ATHLETIC FIELD LIGHTS AND THE PONDS ATHLETIC COMPLEX

WHEREAS, On February 25, 2002, bids were opened for the installation of athletic field lights
at the Ponds Athletic Facility, and
WHEREAS, Klein Electric, Inc. was awarded the contract for the installation of athletic field
lights at the Ponds Athletic Facility, and
WHEREAS, Klein Electric, Inc. has, in all respects, completed the contract for the installation
of lights, and
WHEREAS, the original contract for the installation of lights was $294,000.00, and
WHEREAS, additional work was required for an increase of $3,000.00, and
WHEREAS, the final contract amount is $297,000.00, and
WHEREAS, PLAY provided funding assistance to this project in the form of a $75,000.00
donation.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE,
MINNESOTA, THAT:
1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein.
2. Final payment is hereby authorized to be made to Klein Electric, Inc. in the amount of
$83,850,00 for the contract to install athletic field lighting from the Parks portion of the
Capital Improvement Program.
3. The final payment shall be drawn from the Capital Park Fund,
