CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
AGENDA ITEM: PRESENTATION TO JANET WILLIAMS FOR HER CONTRIBUTIONS AS
DIRECTOR OF THE SCOTT COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM.
PRESENTATION: The Scott County Library system is a great example of a long-standing
partnership benefiting the residents of our fast-growing county. The Library
system is possible only because numerous agencies play their respective roles
so capably. Each city within the County is responsible for providing the building in
which each library is housed, together with the maintenance and .utility costs. The
County assumes responsibility for certain library related furnishings, the
personnel to operate the facility and the circulation materials.
Janet Williams, who has been Executive Director of the Scott County Library
System since 1972 (30 years), is retiring in about a week. When she became
Director of the Library system, the cities of Savage, Prior Lake and New Market
did not have any library facilities at all. As Janet leaves the Scott County Library
system, she does so knowing that new or remodeled library buildings now serve
Prior Lake, Savage, New Market, Belle Plaine, New Prague and Shakopee. The
circulation materials and staff have grown similarly to meet the increasing needs
of our growing County.
Janet Williams has played a key role in the development of a Library system
which will serve Prior Lake residents well now and in the future. We are grateful
for the contributions she has made to Prior Lake and Scott County Library
system, and wish her well in her retirement.
