PRESENTATION TO RESIGNING CITY COUNCILMEMBER MIKE GUNDLACH
(Mayor Haugen)
City Council member Mike Gundlach has submitted his resignation from the Prior
Lake City Council effective November 18, 2002. Mike, his wife Liz and daughter
Katie, have recently purchased a home and moved to Anoka. Mike was elected to
the City Council in 1999 and assumed office in January 2000. While his tenure is
not extremely long, his activity and effort have been considerable.
Mike was instrumental in replacing the City's outdated computer system and
recommending a process through which computers will be financed and replaced.
Mike was also active in supporting digital document imaging to improve record
management and minimize storage space.
Mike has been active in planning issues as well. He is pleased that his idea of
creating a senior overlay district in the zoning ordinance has supported senior
housing projects such as Lakefront Plaza, Creekside, and Keystone
Communities.
The Creekside project resulted in a two-fold community benefit which Mike
supported. For the first time, senior low-income housing was introduced in Prior
Lake. As part of this project, the City was also was able to secure a large parcel
of land to preserve the Five Hawks Outdoor Learning Center.
Mike's planning leadership has also been evident in his support of the proposed
Jeffers Pond development because it provides the community with a large Nature
Center and Interpretive building, a site for an elementary school and fire station,
and a transit station. These are enduring amenities which will benefit current and
future residents.
Finally, Mike participated in and is supportive of the City's 2020 Vision and
Strategic Plan.
Mike's energy and input will be missed, but his legacy will continue to benefit the
community. Mayor Haugen will present Mike with a plaque of appreciation.

Re: Resignation
Dear Gentlemen:
This letter is to confirm that I will be resigning as a member of the Prior Lake City Council effective Monday,
November 18, 2002. As you are aware, my wife Liz and I have sold our house in Prior Lake and will be moving to
Anoka.
During my time on the City Council, I am pleased to have taken an active roll in numerous positive achievements for
Prior Lake. Computer replacement was a high priority of mine when I joined the Council and I am pleased to say we
have not only replaced our outdated computers, but developed a schedule and funding mechanism to keep our
hardware and software up to date. I have also encouraged the acquisition of a digital document imaging system to
help the staff to manage and maintain important documents and historical records efficiently. The Council concurred
and we will be acquiring the equipment which will save money by reducing the amount of City Hall space needed
for document storage, and improve retrieval time. -
Turning to development, I am proud of the effort I speadheaded to create the senior overlay district within the City's
Zoning Code which encourages the development of senior housing. The fact that over 240 senior dwelling units are
under construction at Creekside Estates, Keystone Communities and Lakefront Plaza reflects this priority for
addressing the needs of our seniors.
Service to my community is something I was taught from an early age, and have always tried to pursue. I have
enjoyed serving the people of Prior Lake, and I hope that through my efforts I have left an indelible and positive
imprint upon this community.
Sincerely,
/Il~YJi~
Mike Gundlach
