CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
INSTALLATION OF NO PARKING SIGNS ON MUSHTOWN
ROAD ADJACENT TO RYAN PARK.
DISCUSSION:
This item is a request for the City Council to consider approving the
installation of No Parking signs on both sides of Mushtown Road adjacent
to Ryan Park. The reason for this request is to prevent people from parking
on Mushtown during events in the park. People are parking on Mushtown
instead of in the Park parking lot because it is closer to some of the fields in
the Park, even though there is plenty of space available in the parking lot.
Mushtown Road is a 28 foot wide, urban section street not intended to
accommodate parking and still allow safe passage for motorists and
pedestrians. This situation poses a concern to the Police Department who
concurs with this request.
Spring Lake Township Board of Supervisors Chair Gene Berens has
expressed his concern about the parking on Mushtown. He advises us that
the Township Board will be considering No Parking signs on the Ryan Park
side of Mushtown Road as it turns into gravel in the Township.
CONCLUSIONS:
Staff believes that it is appropriate for the City Council to authorize the
installation of No Parking signs as described above. After City Council
approval, staff would purchase and install these signs as soon as they are
available.
FINANCIAL IMP ACT:
The total cost of these signs is very minor and would be funded by the
Street Operating Budget.

The alternatives are as follows:
1. Approve a resolution authorizing the installation of signs on Mushtown
Road on both sides adjacent to Ryan Park.
2. Deny this entire item or segments of it for a specific reason and provide
staff with direction.
3. Table this item until some date in the future.

AUTHORIZING PLACEMENT OF NO PARKING SIGNS ON BOTH SIDES OF MUSHTOWN
ROAD ADJACENT TO RYAN PARK

WHEREAS,
the City is concerned about the safety of its traveling public, both vehicular and
pedestrian, and
the City has received requests for the Engineering Department to investigate the need
for parking restrictions adjacent to Ryan Park; and
the Engineering Department has investigated the locations and has made
recommendations to the City Council.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, the
placement of No Parking signs is hereby ordered at the following locations:
a) On both sides of Mushtown Road adjacent to Ryan Park
