Seven massage therapy licenses were either renewed or issued in 2002. Of those seven licensees, five have chosen to renew their licenses for 2003. Attached to this agenda report is a list of the five individuals who are applying to renew their massage therapy license. The annual license renewal fee for massage therapy according to the current fee schedule is $250.00. The Issues All applicants have completed the renewal application and paid the $250.00 license fee. The Prior Lake Police Department has reported no problems with any of the applicants. The City Council has the following alternatives: 1. Adopt a motion as part of the consent agenda approving the massage therapy license renewals for 2003. 2. Deny one or more of the license requests. SJOQUIST Current Circumstances Susan M. Sjoquist of 20024 Hoya Court, Lakeville, MN 55044 is applying for a personal services license, as permitted in the City of Prior Lake Code, to engage in a massage therapy business. The City Code Section 303.300 requires that a personal services license be issued by the City Council in order for an individual to perform massage therapy in the city. This license would be valid from January 1,2003 until December 31,2003. Ms. Sjoquist is planning to go to her clients' residence or business to perform either table or chair massages. The Issues The Prior Lake Police Department has investigated Ms. Sjoquist pursuant to the information required on the application and has found no reason to deny the application. Ms. Sjoquist has paid the $100.00 investigation fee and the $250.00 application fee. She has provided the city with proof of completion of massage therapy schooling as required by the City's massage therapy ordinance. . The City Council has the following alternatives: 1. Adopt a motion as part of the consent agenda approving the massage therapy license request for Susan M. Sjoquist. 2. Deny the massage therapy license request. Staff recommends Council approve the massage therapy license for Susan M.
