CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION APPROVING A
STREET NAME CHANGE FOR 141 ST STREET IN THE PLAT
OF THE WINDSOR ESTATES
DISCUSSION:
History: On August 4, 2003, the City Council adopted Resolution 03-
136 approving the final plat for Windsor Estates, This final plat
included an east-west street, named 14151 Street, which is an extension
of the existing 14151 Street in Savage.
Issues: The segment of 14pl Street in Windsor Estates was named as
such because it is an extension of the existing street. The numbering,
however, is consistent with the Savage grid system rather than the
Prior Lake grid system. There was a great deal of discussion about the
best name for this street prior to approval of the final plat. It was
determined at that time it would be best to continue the 14pl Street
name. Since then, the Police Department has requested the nanle be
changed at the City limits. They feel it is less confusing to if the street
was named according to the Prior Lake grid system, even though this
street name will change in mid-block. Attached is a graphic
identifying the existing streets and the proposed name change.
The staff consulted the developer and the developer has no objections.
There are no homes or building permits on this street segment. The
developer suggested the name be changed to Royalton Road.
Conclusion: The City Police Department feels the name should be
changed for the benefit of public safety. The staff therefore
recommends the name change from 14151 Street to Royalton Road.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Approval of this street name change will have no fiscal impact.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City Council has three alternatives:

RESOLUTION OF THE PRIOR LAKE CITY COUNCIL
RENAMING 141sT STREET TO ROYAL TON ROAD
MOTION BY:

WHEREAS:
The Prior Lake City Council has approved the final plat known as Windsor Estates,
which includes the right-of-way for 14151 Street; and
WHEREAS:
For public health and safety reasons, 14151 Street should be renamed in order to be
consistent with the Prior Lake grid system; and
WHEREAS:
There are no existing dwellings fronting on 14151 Street; and
WHEREAS:
Changing the name of 14151 Street to Royalton Road will not have a detrimental effect
on the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA, that it hereby approves changing the name of 14151 Street in Windsor
Estates to Royalton Road.
Passed and adopted this 51h day of January, 2004.
