Frank Boyles, City Manager
Presentation to Cassie Busse in Recognition of Outstanding Efforts as a
University of Minnesota Student Athlete.
The City of Prior Lake takes great pride in its youth. Each November, the City
joins the School District in recognizing Youth Appreciation Week in Prior Lake.
The accomplishments and contributions of our outstanding young citizens
deserve the recognition and praise of the community. This is particularly true of
Cassie Busse.
Cassie Busse is the daughter of Jim and Nancy Busse of Prior Lake. Cassie
graduated from Prior Lake Christian High School and is now an accomplished
student-athlete at the University of Minnesota.
Recently, Cassie has been recognized in numerous ways for her excellence on
the volleyball court as the Golden Gophers reached the Final Four in the NCAA
National Volleyball Tournament, and finished the 2003 season ranked No.4 in the
USA Today/AVCA Top 25 poll. Individually, Cassie distinguished herself by being
named Big Ten Volleyball Player of the Year, an American Volleyball Coaches
Association First-Team All-American, and a member of the Final Four AII-
Tournament Team.
But Cassie is not only an accomplished athlete. She exhibits the same excellence
in the classroom, and was named a 1st team Academic All-American. To qualify,
Cassie needed to meet a minimum number of college level credits and have a
cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (B+) or higher.
Cassie's accomplishments should serve as inspiration to Minnesota youth, and
are certainly a source of great pride for her parents and friends, as well as her
hometown. In congratulations and recognition of Cassie's many
accomplishments, Mayor Haugen will present a Prior Lake pin and plaque to her
parents.
