History: Over the last ten or more years, the City has acquired computer-related equipment which is now obsolete, inoperable or incompatible with our existing equipment. This agenda item seeks Council approval to dispose of this equipment. Current Circumstances: The police annex building has traditionally become the repository for equipment which is no longer used by the City. We are in the process of organizing our storage area and disposing of materials which no longer have functional value. The attached list includes: 1 data collector 1 burster 7 printers 7 terminals 4 hard drives 3 UPS 2 moniters 1 mainframe computer 1 3/38 computer 1 plotter 1 digitizer table 1 modem 1 cassette recorder 2 8-port mux Sixteen of these items are no longer operable. The staff recommends that they be disposed of by the most economical means available. The seventeen items which are obsolete or incompatible with our present equipment are recommended to be sold based upon quotes. Conclusion: Our past practice has been to ask for City Council authorization to dispose of excess equipment as in this case. The question is whether to continue to retain items we no longer use and the productive lives of which are concluded. Disposing of the equipment will make space available for storage and other appropriate purposes. ALTERNATIVES: (1) Motion and second as part of the Consent Agenda authorizing staff to dispose of excess equipment as set forth herein. (2) Defer action and direct the staff to prepare additional information. RECOMMENDED MOTION: Alternative (1).
