DISCUSSION: STAFF AGENDA REPORT AUGUST 7, 2000 4B RALPH TESCHNER, FINANCE DIRECTOR CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ELECTION JUDGE APPOINTMENTS FOR 2000 PRIMARY & GENERAL ELECTIONS A primary and general election are scheduled for this fall for Tuesday, September 12 and Tuesday November 7,2000 respectively for the purpose of electing candidates for the following offices: FEDERAL Presidential United States Senate United States Representative STATE State Senator State Representative JUDICIAL Supreme, Appeals & District Court Judges COUNTY Commissioner Soil & Water Supervisors (3) Issues: The Primary and General elections are the sole responsibility of the City of Prior Lake from a cost standpoint. As part of the election process, the City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct the election day activities. Total registered voter count is presently 8,911, It is interesting to note the similar size of precincts 2, 3 and 5 with respect to number of registered voters. Each precinct will be staffed with 8 election judges. Within the precincts, there is relative party balance as required by election law. The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M, The judges will report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the poll openings for set-up preparation. Their compensation shall be $7.00 per hour. Conclusion: Staff would recommend approval of the attached list of election judges by precinct. Staff has contacted the judges and each has expressed interest in serving in this year's election. 1.) Approve the election judge appointments for the 2000 Primary and General elections, 2.)
