HomeMy WebLinkAbout9H - EDA Vacancy Appointment CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT AUGUST 7, 2000 9H Frank Boyles, City Manager AGENDA ITEM: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF APPOINTMENT TO FILL VACANCY ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, ACTING MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL LIAISON TO LAKE ADVISORY COMMITTEE. DISCUSSION: History: At its July 17, 2000 meeting, the City Council formally accepted the resignation of Councilmember Pete Schenck. Councilmember Schenck was also a member of the Economic Development Authority, Acting Mayor, and City Council Liaison to the Lake Advisory Committee. It is therefore appropriate for the City Council to appoint new representatives in each case. ISSUES: Current Circumstances: At the July 17th meeting, Mayor Mader asked each City Councilmember who was interested in serving on the Economic Development Authority to contact him before the August 7th meeting. Under the Economic Development Authority bylaws, the existing vacancy must be filled by a Councilmember for a term which ends 12/31/00, The Mayor makes the appointment which is then confirmed by a majority of the City Council. Since Council member Schenck was also Acting Mayor, it is also appropriate for the Mayor to propose an Acting Mayor for confirmation by the City Council. Councilmember Schenck was also liaison to the Lake Advisory Committee. The Council may wish to consider appointing a new liaison to the Lake Advisory Committee. Earlier this year, the following Council members were appointed as liaison to the following committees: Park Advisory Committee Planning Commission - Council member Ericson - Councilmember Gundlach Conclusion: The Council should make appointments as it deems appropriate. The Council could elect to defer some or all of the appointments until a new Councilmember is selected in order that that individual could be considered as well. ALTERNATIVES: (1) Make appointments as deemed appropriate. (2) Defer action on one or all of the appointments. RECOMMENDED MOTION: As the Council deems appropriate. 16200 Eagle-Creek Ave. S.E., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372-1714 / Ph.
