STATUS REPORT ON U.S. POST OFFICE FACILITY PROJECT - Tom Aggen
The United States Postal Service has acquired a 3.4 acre property adjacent to
Toronto, Tower and Duluth streets for the purpose of building a new 20,000
square foot Post Office in Prior Lake. Tom Aggen, Real Estate Specialist, will
provide the Council with a brief overview of this project.
As the Council may know, the US Postal Service is not bound by City zoning
ordinances, nor it is required to secure a building permit from the City or pay
yearly property taxes. However, the Postal Service, desiring to be a good
community resident, works closely with the host community to develop a
construction project in harmony with City requirements. For example, the zoning
ordinance requires a majority of Class I materials. This building will consist of
brick and glass predominantly, both of which are Class I materials. There is an 8-
acre area which drains onto this property. The Postal Service is planning for
ponding capacity to receive this volume. The biggest challenge for this project is
the placement and dedication for the ring road.
Mr. Aggen will provide an overview, estimated construction timeline, and will
respond to Council questions.
