CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ESOLUTION 96-13.
AFFIRMING THE CITY COUNCIL'S PERSPECTIVE WITH
REGARD TO WORKERS COMPENSATION COVERAGE
FOR CITY COUNCIL, PLANNING COMMISSION AND
ADVISORY BODIES.
FEBRUARY 5, 1996
At the Council's January 19, 1996 meeting direction was
given to the staff to prepare a resolution affirming the
Councils position with respect to Workers Compensation
coverage and insurance for the City Council, Planning
Commission and other advisory bodies. Attached is a
resolution which affirms that Workers Compensation is not
to be extended to the City Council, Planning Commission
or any advisory body, but that insurance, including short
term disability, is extended to city councilmembers only.
1. Adopt the Resolution 96-13 as part of the Consent
Agenda.
2. Remove the item from the Consent Agenda for further
consideration.
RECOMMENDATION: Alternative #1. Alternative #1 is consistent with the
Council's direction from the January 19 meeting.
ACTION REQUIRED: Motion and second to adopt the Consent Agenda including
this item.

WITH RESPECT TO WORKERS COMPENSATION COVERAGE
OR LIFE INSURANCE PAID TO THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY BOARDS
OR COMMISSIONS

WHEREAS, The League of Minnesota Cities, through the League of Minnesota Cities
Insurance Trust has requested clarification from its member cities with respect
to whether Workers Compensation is to be extended to the City Council and/or
official city boards and commissions or whether insurance is to be provided to
all or a portion of the above named group.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE,
that affirms the fact that Workers Compensation coverage will not include members of: the City
Council, Economic Development Authority, Planning Commission, Park Advisory Committee,
Lake Advisory Committee and Business Development Committee. Further, that the Council
does hereby confirm its authorization to provide to City Councilmembers a life insurance policy
which includes short term disability coverage for the purpose of protecting its members from
potential accidents or injuries incurred while acting in an official capacity on behalf of the City
of Prior Lake.
