Steve,
Per your instructions, we went out this morning to verify the grounding in the Wood Shop at Hidden Oaks Middle
School.
The inspection was done by our service technician superintendent, Jay Benson.
He found the ductwork was hard ducted and grounded to the dust collector.
He also verified that each piece of equipment was grounded with the following exceptions:
1. The radial arm saw motor was double insulated and as such did not have a grounding plug. The saw itself was
not grounded. It might be possible to ground the saw to nearby electrical outlet if desired. See detail 3/M3 -1 on
your plans.
2. The router table was not grounded (its wood and wouldn't conduct electricity unless it was wet). The metal
frame supporting the router table was not grounded.
Please contact me with any questions.

Steve,
The Prior Lake mechanical inspector brought to my attention General Note #4 on the plans calls for "Verify that
ductwork is grounded to machines and to collector ". He noted that there are no grounding wires from the ductwork to
the equipment. The flex ductwork isolates the equipment from the ductwork. Do we need to install grounding wires to
each of the band saws, drill presses and grinders? If so, do you have a detail that would indicate the wire gauge and
acceptable connection details?
I would appreciate your help to make sure that if grounding is required, that it is done correctly.
Thank you,
Michael R. Thienes, Senior Project Manager
