FRANK BOYLES, CITY MANAGER~''\ '
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF CHAN ORDER #1 FOR MAIN FIRE
STATION
SEPTEMBER 6, 1994
In an earlier Update memorandum, I advised the City Council that as with
most construction, we expect change orders to occur on the fire station.
Most of the change orders are minor on dollar impact. The Council must
approve all change orders.
Since the beginning of the project there have been six minor revisions as
outlined in the attached letter from Boarman Kroos. The two largest
revisions include a $1000 gas meter relocation required by the gas
company and a $2738 revision to the building water service due to the
high water table. Both of these changes could not have been
contemplated as part of the specifications. There are also four other
changes associated with revision in joists, ADA requirements, revision in
masonry and size increase in television and telephone conduits.
The total of these change orders is $4,846. The original contract amount
was $1,518,760. With the addition of the $4,846 in change orders, the
total new construction price is $1,523,606.
The original construction budget was $1,559,744 with a contingency of
$85,939. The project as it stands now is below the budget, not including
the contingency amount.
There is little doubt these changes needed to take place. Staff does not
see that these revisions are the result of defects or omissions in the
architectural plans.
Council has the following alternatives:
1. Adopt Change Order #1 in the amount of $4,846.
2. Defer action on the change order until such time additional
information is rendered.
RECOMMENDATION: Alternate #1 .
ACTION REQUIRED: Motion and second as part of the consent agenda to adopt Change Order
#1 in the amount of $4,846 as set forth in the architect's letter

The building is progressing well. We have passed the point where most of the unknown conditions are
encountered on a project of this size. The construction budget was $1,559,744 with a contingency of
$85,939 and the project is below the budget not including the contingency amount. If you have any
questions please call me.
