INTRODUCTION:
Kevin and Jennifer King are applying for a Cigarette License for
the period of October 8, 1996 to December 31, 1996. The Kings
are the future owners of Gateway Wine and Spirits in the
Gateway Shopping Center. The current owner's (Thomas
Kowalsky), cigarette license was not renewed last year as per
his own request.
BACKGROUND:
The Kings have applied for and been granted a Liquor License
for Gateway Wine & Spirits for the time period of September
17, 1996 to June 30, 1997. The license fee was not pro-rated
and the cigarette license fee will also not be pro-rated. Mr. King
need only comply with the current cigarette ordinance in effect
until 12/31/96. As of 1/01/97 all cigarette license applicants
will need to comply with the new ordinance.
DISCUSSION:
The Kings have provided the necessary fee and completed the
application for a Cigarette License. The Prior Lake Police
Department has completed their investigation and attached their
findings concurrent with their liquor license.
ALTERNATIVES:
The council has the following alternatives:
1. Approve the cigarette license for the license period of
October 8, 1996 to December 31, 1996.
2. Deny the cigarette license.
Recommendation
Staff recommends the Prior Lake City Council approve the
cigarette license as there is no current cigarette license for
Gateway Wine & Spirits.
