FRANK BOYLES, CITY MANAGER ~
JACK HAUGEN, PRIOR LAKE ROTARY, DONATION
OF VEHICLE FOR D.A.R.E. PROGRAM.
JUNE 17, 1996
Jack Haugen, of the Prior Lake Rotary, will be present
at the June 17 meeting at approximately 9:00 p.m. to
offer a donation to the City of a 1996 utility vehicle to be
used for the Prior Lake D.A.R.E. Program. Police Chief
Dick Powell, Lieutenant Steve Schmidt, Sergeant Rob
Boe and Police Officer Dennis Leff have also been
invited.
As the Council is aware, the Rotary has underwritten
the cost of D.A.R.E. Program materials over the last six
years. Jack Haugen has been a prime mover of the
D.A.R.E. Program, and particularly the Rotary D.A.R.E.
Bike-a-Thon, which was his brain child. The Bike-a-
Thon has been enthusiastically embraced by the
community for the last six years.
The utility vehicle is intended primarily for D.A.R.E.
Program promotion and for use by the School Liaison
Officer and D.A.R.E. instructors at school and student
related functions. The vehicle will be available for
public relations purposes at community events such as
Lakefront Days, Playing in Prior Lake, etc. A written
agreement will be prepared between the City and Rotary
which outlines the responsibilities of each with respect
to the vehicle. If the Council authorizes acceptance of the
donation, a written agreement will be prepared by the
City Attorney for final approval by the Prior Lake
Rotary Board and the Prior Lake City Council.
