FOR 1996 PRIMARY & GENERAL ELECTIONS
AUGUST 5, 1996
A primary and general election are scheduled for this fall for September
10, 1996 and Tuesday November 5, 1996 respectively for the purpose of
electing candidates for the following offices:
FEDERAL
President
United States Senator
United States Representative
STATE
State Senator
State Representative
COUNTY
County Commissioner
Judges
Soil & Conservation
SCHOOL BOARD
Three Board members
The Primary election is the sole responsibility of the City from a cost
standpoint while the General election will be a joint effort between the
City and School District, with City Staff coordinating the process. The
City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct
the election day activities.
The assigned polling places for the five precincts are located respectively
as follows along with their current registered voter count:

Total registered voter count is presently at 8,134. Each precinct will be
staffed with 6 election judges. Within the precincts, there is party balance
as required by election law.
The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The judges will
report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the polls
opening for set-up preparation. As in past years, the judges shall be paid
$5.00 per hour.
1. .. Approve Election Judge Appointments in accordance with
the attached list dated August 5, 1996.
2. Require additional information prior to adoption.
Alternative #1. Staff would recommend appointment of those judges
submitted. The last day for approval of election judges as prescribed by
Minn. Stat. 204B.21, ubd. 2, is August 16, 1996 which precedes our next
council meeting.
