HomeMy WebLinkAbout8B - National Day of Prayer CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT 16200 Eagle Creek Avenue S.E. Prior Lake, MN 55372-1714 MEETING DATE: April 19, 2004 AGENDA #: 88 PREPARED BY: Frank Boyles, City Manager AGENDA ITEM: PROCLAMATION DECLARING MAY 6, 2004 AS NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER IN PRIOR LAKE. PRESENTATION: Since 1996, the National Day of Prayer has been observed in Prior Lake through proclamation of the Mayor. Churches and communities throughout the state participate in this day through various celebrations, prayer vigils, and other similar events organized to provide education, fellowship and leadership. In Prior Lake, Connie Perrin is organizing the event through Minnesota Valley Community Church. This year, Lakefront Park will be the site of a community prayer service on May 6th beginning at 6:30pm. All Prior Lake area residents are invited to attend. In these difficult times of world unrest, increased concern for security at home, and extremely tight budgets, it seems appropriate for the Council to endorse the participation of Prior Lake residents in a National Day of Prayer. Attached is a Proclamation, to be read by Mayor Haugen, designating May 6, 2004 as National Day of Prayer in Prior Lake. www.cityofpriorlake.com 1:\COUNCIL\AGNRPTS\2004\PRAY~drtQ<952.447.4230 / Fax 952.447.4245 Connie Perrin 15534 Ridgemont Ave S.E. Prior Lake, MN 55372 April 5, 2004 Mr. Frank Boyles City of Prior Lake 16200 Eagle Creek Ave. SE Prior Lake, MN 55372 Dear Mr. Boyles, May 6th will mark the 53rd annual National Day of Prayer. This year the prayer service will be held at Lake Front Park beginning at 6:30 pm. As in past years, we are asking that the city officials issue a proclamation recognizing the importance of prayer and call upon the residents of Prior Lake to participate. I would also like to extend an invitation to you and the City council members to attend the service. Our theme this year is "Let freedom ring", and is based on Leviticus 25: 1 0 which states, " . . . proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants." to gather, to worship, and to pray. I dream that one day Prior Lake parents will be able to send their children to the schools and parks without fear for their safety, addictions and abuse will be eradicated, and civil servants will be able to serve their community in safety. This is true freedom, and I believe that these changes begin with prayer. God has been faithful to Prior Lake in the past years. He has provided wisdom for our leadership when called upon. He has blessed the citizens with peace and prosperity, but there is still much to bring before God in prayer. I look forward to hearing from you regarding the proclamation and hope that you will be able to attend. Sincerely, ~~ Connie Perrin 15534 Ridgemont Ave. Prior Lake, MN 55372 Home # 447-6441 ~~~~~~ ~~~~4~c-~ '1~ rY-~~~.Pk ~. ,.
