MN 55379 RE: Bearing Wall Removal 3269 Sycamore Trails SW Prior Lake, MN Dear Mr. Arnevik: As requested. I visited the residence identified above on October 4, 2013, and examined the existing roof system which is being supported by the existing bearing wall. Our design follows the requirements of the Minnesota State Building Code and the International Residential Code, 2006 edition. This includes a roof snow load of 35 psf. a top chord dead load of 10 psf. and a bottom chord dead load of 10 psf. The existing bearing wall between the kitchen and the living room has been removed. A new beam must be installed as shown on the enclosed detail on pages 3 & 4 of 7 of this report. The installation of the new beam requires that the existing jack trusses be snubbed as shown on the enclosed detail on page 7 of 7 of this report. Also, the existing girder truss must have the heel reinforced as shown on the enclosed detail on page 5 of 7 of this report. Also during my site visit, it was noticed that the existing roof trusses at the entry are not design for a cantilever. These trusses shall be repaired as shown on the enclosed detail on page 6 of 6 of this report. Our involvement in the design of this structure is limited to the individual members addressed and specified in this report. All other engineering and design remains the responsibility of others.
