AGENDA ITEM: RECOGNITION OF EAGLE SCOUTS MATTHEW ANDERSON AND DREW
RUNNING.
PRESENTATION: The City's 2020 Vision and Strategic Plan places significant emphasis on
partnership, community leadership, volunteerism, service and civic pride. It also
seeks to promote the values of honesty, pride, and self-worth.
Mayor Haugen was recently invited to attend an event for two Prior Lake youth -
Matthew Anderson and Drew Running - who recently achieved the honor of
Eagle Scout.
Reaching Eagle Scout status is quite a significant achievement. Eagle Scout is a
performance-based achievement with high standards. An Eagle Scout must
demonstrate mastery of skills including first aid, citizenship, communications,
environmental science, personal fitness, personal management, camping, and
family life, among others. A total of at least 21 merit badges. Eagle Scouts must
also participation in increasingly more responsible service projects and
demonstrate leadership abilities.
Only about 4 percent of all Boy Scouts reach the honor of Eagle Scout. Given
that these gentlemen epitomize the values and character defined in our 2020
Vision and Strategic Plan, we asked them to attend tonight's meeting for our
formal recognition.
