EDAC Subcommittee Meeting - Marketing Packet
Meeting Notes
January 15, 2014
Members present: Bill Henry, Lloyd Erbaugh, Mark Petersen and Michelle Choudek.
Staff present: Casey McCabe.
Subcommittee members reviewed meeting notes from the December 18, 2013 meeting.
Members reviewed discussions with assigned businesses.
Henry: was not able to contact Paws & Pals.

Henry: spoke with Chad Dill / Norex. Important information to include in the marketing packet is cost, financing
o
and property tax information; other information would be schools, labor force and transportation. Entertainment
information was not as important to this business.
Erbaugh: spoke with Bob Vogel/New Market Bank. Mr. Vogel suggested including information about the HS
o
robotics team, Lunds choosing Prior Lake and addressing the perception of PL being supportive of housing
projects but not commercial projects. Mr. Vogel is willing to provide a testimonial if needed.
Choudek: was not able to meet with Safe Step; will continue to try to schedule a meeting.
o
Choudek: met with owner of Triple Play and discussed issues related to Deerfield Ind. Park and their need for
o
additional traffic to generate business.
McCabe: said he and Rogness still need to contact their businesses.
o
Subcommittee members discussed additional items to include in the marketing packet.
Choudek: suggested the traffic map in the packet should include time to key destinations (airport/Mpls.) and time
o
to 169 / 35.
Members: suggested the marketing materials should not include commercial and industrial property demand
o
information because these SF needs will change.
Members: suggested FSS and PL Chamber contact information should also be included.
o
Members: packet should be commercial focus; not residential.
o
Petersen: offered to review the draft marketing packet with his art directors to provide additional
o
comments/direction.
Members discussed layout / design of the marketing packet.
Draft theme of painting/art will be changed.
o
Three page layout will remain.
o
Recreational theme/pictures will be changed to commercial theme/pictures.
o
Next steps
McCabe will work with other city staff to complete a draft marketing packet for subcommittee review.
o
An update will be provided to the full EDAC at the next meeting on January 23.

Once a draft is complete, the subcommittee will schedule another meeting for review and comment.
o
After comments are received from the subcommittee, final revisions will be made and the marketing piece will be
o
provided to the full EDAC and then the EDA for final comments.
EDA to develop a marketing plan.
Erbaugh: recommended the EDA discuss a strategy to use the tools provided by the EDAC and staff over the past
o
few years in an overall marketing plan.
Erbaugh: will provide some ideas and information to Choudek for discussion during the January 21 EDA meeting.

Members: recommended the EDA consider including “develop a marketing plan” in its 2014 Business Plan goals.
