ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: October 21, 2013
AGENDA #: 8B
PREPARED BY: Casey McCabe, Community Development Specialist
AGENDA ITEM: MARKETING MATERIAL FOR PRIOR LAKE
DISCUSSION: Introduction
The purpose of this agenda item is to review previous City of Prior Lake mar-
keting materials and provide direction to city staff and the EDAC related to a
new community marketing packet.
History
Attached to this report is the current City of Prior Lake marketing materials
produced by city staff with the assistance of the EDAC. The EDAC reviewed
the current City of Prior Lake marketing packet during the August and Sep-
tember 2013 meetings and agreed the information is out of date and the doc-
ument is in need of updating.
Current Circumstances
In addition to reviewing the current marketing materials, the EDAC has re-
viewed marketing materials produced by other communities, and First Stop
Shop which will be available for review at the EDA meeting. The EDAC feels
not only should the information in the document be updated but the entire
document should be improved to reflect the image of Prior Lake as a profes-
sional organization committed to high quality development.
Conclusion
City staff and the EDAC would like the EDA to 1) allocate funding for the
printing costs of this document and 2) provide direction related to the content,
style and overall theme of the marketing material. The EDAC has discussed
content, which will include, among other topics: general community infor-
mation, transportation network, community profile, recreational opportunities,
economic development incentives, tax rates, bond rating, etc. Community
marketing materials will available on the City website as well as be sent to
regional brokers and developers and used when responding to requests for
site information.
ISSUES: The First Stop Shop has prepared a marketing document. We would like our
document to dovetail with that piece as well. The EDAC has asked for EDA
direction related to content style and overall theme of the marketing material.
The final draft document will be presented to the EDA for review and approval
prior to printing.
FINANCIAL Printing costs will vary depending on the type, number and size of the docu-
