PREPARED BY: Casey McCabe, Community Development Specialist AGENDA ITEM: DOWNTOWN SOUTH STUDY UPDATE - CITY ENGINEER LARRY POPPLER DISCUSSION: Introduction Prior Lake City Engineer, Larry Poppler, will be in attendance to discuss the Downtown South Study process, findings and probable timeline of street construction activities in the downtown area. History In 2005, the Scott County Hwy. 21 Corridor Study was completed on the CR 21 corridor through Prior Lake. While the study provided for an increase in traffic, it became clear additional work would be necessary to address concerns related to pedestrian safety, connectivity between north and south downtown Prior Lake and adequate access points to downtown businesses. In 2012, the City of Prior Lake contracted with Bolton & Menk to complete the Downtown South Study to address an increase in vehicle traffic, consider pedestrian safety and downtown con- nectivity as well as identify alternate traffic routes to and from downtown businesses. Current Circumstances During previous committee meetings, EDAC members identified questions about the Downtown South Study process, potential effects on traffic patterns and timing of proposed construction activities; specifically the CR 21/Main Avenue intersection, the CR 21/Hwy 13 intersection and any future connections to the South Lake Village/Diggers redevelopment site area. Conclusion City Engineer Larry Poppler will be in attendance during the April 24 meeting to provide an th update of the Downtown South Study and proposed timing of intersection construction projects. EDAC members are encouraged to review the Downtown South Study informational page on the City of Prior Lake website at the link below prior to the meeting. http://www.cityofpriorlake.com/studyplan.php
