EDAC Marketing Packet Subcommittee
Meeting Notes
May 6, 2014
Members present: Bill Henry, Lloyd Erbaugh, Mark Petersen, Annie Sheehan-Kerber and Michelle Choudek.
Staff present: Dan Rogness and Casey McCabe
Members reviewed the current draft community marketing packet (04.30.2014) and provided the following
comments/direction:
General Comments
Bullet points throughout the packet look large; use smaller bullet point
Make sure each page either includes a Prior Lake logo or the words Prior Lake… City of Prior Lake
somewhere near the top so whichever page is opened up it will be clear that the packet is for Prior Lake.
Add a footer to the bottom of each page (not cover or back) in small font with the city contact
information/website. Maybe use the same footer on the city letterhead in a grey color so it is there but not
dominant.

Remove picture of lady and replace with photo of Mystic Lake Casino Hotel that was used in the SCALE
business packet. We will need to get you this photo.
Remove beach photo and replace with boating picture. Possibly Knotty Oar Marina showing boating activity.
We will need to get you a photo.
Remove photo of girl on dock and replace with conference room or lab photo at Onsite Engineering. We will
need to get you a photo.
Reduce the shadow on tag line A Wonderful Place to Live, Work and Play… It is a little difficult to read.

Replace top five bullets with….
Prior Lake, located in Scott County at the southwest edge of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, is known for
its beautiful lakes, numerous outdoor amenities, recreation opportunities, entertainment venues, outstanding
schools and high-quality neighborhoods.

A flourishing community that has grown from a population of 15,917 in 2000 to 24,000 in 2014 and is

expected to reach nearly 40,000 by 2040.
Positioned for continued commercial development with more than 300 acres of planned business park

and industrial land.
Growing, with more than 2,500 additional acres of commercial and residential land within an orderly

annexation area that will become available for development in the near future.
Home to hundreds of successful businesses, including Mystic Lake Casino Hotel which is Scott County’s

largest employer.

Under the education tab, it was not clear to the subcommittee that the bullet points were referencing a top
ten achievement. The committee suggested bold letters to highlight the top 10. Prior Lake-Savage Area
Schools are recognized as TOP 10 in the Twin Cities in… the bullet points themselves do not need to be
bolded.
Remove two tabs that say Education and Labor Force and replace with one tab that says Workforce.

Add PL logo
Delete two headers (Location & Access and Transportation) and replace with one header called Location &
Transportation.
Map will be revised… we are not sure how it will be changed.
Move map to top.
Delete bold sentence at top, “Prior Lake is an ideal community…..”
Below map add:

It is conveniently located with easy access to major transportation corridors.

Its transportation system includes major roadways such as State Hwy. 13, County Hwy. 42, County

Hwy. 21 and numerous others that provide convenient access to the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area and
Greater Minnesota.
County Hwy. 21 is a four-lane roadway which connects I-35 (7 miles) and US Hwy. 169 (1.5 miles)
o
through the center of the city.
Prior Lake provides transit services to and from other municipalities within the Twin Cities Metropolitan
o
Area by way of the Laker Lines and BlueXpress, which brings customers and employees to support
community businesses and expands the employment options for southwest metro residents.
MSP International Airport is approximately 25 minutes away and easily accessible via I-494 from I-35
o
or US Hwy. 169

Change The Renaissance Festival to Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
Move the photo of The Landing up and the photo of Canterbury to the bottom.

Add PL logo
Add the 2040 population to the Population Trends table; Prior Lake 39,300 Scott County 201,900
Change graphs so PL is blue and MN is green. (revised graphs attached / multiple tabs)
Add Technology Village Business Accelerator and Scott County CDA Open to Business Program to the list
of incentives.

Add a bullet point under Prior Lake Offers… which says, Access to the Scott County fiber optic network which
spans 300 miles.
Remove the Contact Information heading/tab; should be self-explanatory that these are the contacts
Remove Scott County logo and replace with First Stop Shop logo (attached)
New contact address for Stacy Crakes, Marschall Road Transit Station, 1615 Weston Court, Shakopee,
MN 55379
