Prior Lake, MN 55372-1714 STAFF AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: AGENDA #: PREPARED BY: AGENDA ITEM: AUGUST 2, 2004 5D RALPH TESCHNER, FINANCE DIRECTOR CONSIDER APPROV AL OF ELECTION JUDGE APPOINTMENTS FOR 2004 PRIMARY & GENERAL ELECTIONS DISCUSSION: A primary and general election are scheduled for this fall for Tuesday, September 14 and Tuesday November 2, 2004 respectively for the purpose of electing candidates for the following offices: FEDERAL Presidential United States Representative STA TE - State Representative JUDICIAL Supreme, Appeals & District Court Judges COUNTY Commissioners (2) Soil & Water Supervisors (3) Issues: - As part of the election process, the City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct the Election Day activities. Total registered voter count is presently 10,202. It is interesting to note the similar size of precincts 2, 3, 6B and 7 with respect to number of registered voters. Each precinct will be staffed with 6 election judges. Within the precincts, there is relative party balance as required by election law. The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The judges will report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the poll openings for set-up preparation. Their compensation shall be $8.00 per hour. Conclusion: Staff would recommend approval of the attached list of election judges by precinct. Staff has contacted the judges and each has expressed interest in serving in this year's election. 1.)
