RE: Second Review of the Proposed AT&T Antenna Upgrade on the Tower Street
Water Tower Located in Prior Lake,AT&T Site MNL03434
KLM Project MN 2819
Dear Mr. Wiita:
KLM has completed a second review of the proposed AT&T antenna installation on the Tower
Street Water Tower, which included additional drawings Si, S2, S3 and the structural analysis
by Krech Ojard &Associates.
KLM has the following comments and recommendations for your use and to forward to AT&T:
1. Drawing C-2, details 1 and 2: There has been limited information provided on the
power and fiber bundles. Are they to be enclosed within a conduit? How are the
bundles attached and supported? It is not clear how visible the cables will be or if
they will require painting, or if they are to match the existing cables.
2. The references on Details 1 on drawing C-2 should be modified to include the
appropriate details on drawings S2 and S3.
3. Detail 2 on drawing C-3: Modify the references to include the appropriate details on
drawings S2 and S3.
4. Details 3/S2 and 4/S2 show the surge suppressor mounting and Rosenberger box
mounting details, respectively. While KLM recommends seal welded connections for
these attachments to eliminate the potential for pack rust in areas inaccessible to
coating, a 6-inch standoff is also recommended to enable painting behind the brackets
when the box is temporarily removed during future reconditioning.
5. Drawings 51 and GN-1 each have painting notes, which appear to contradict each
other in the coatings they recommend. Please delete the painting notes on drawing
Si, and use the notes on drawing GN-1
6. The structural analysis provided by Krech Ojard& Associates appears to show the
tower and supports can adequately support the additional applied loadings.
These recommendations should be incorporated into the construction drawings and an updated
copy provided for both your and our review. Following final review and approval, a
preconstruction conference with AT&T representatives, their contractor and subcontractor(s),the
City of Prior Lake and KLM should be scheduled to discuss the construction. If necessary, prior
to construction, the contractor should provide welder's qualification certificates for our review.
It should be relayed to the contractor that KLM will be performing inspections of the installation,
and the contractor will need to contact KLM to schedule both field and shop inspections. Kelly
Mulhern will be in charge of KLM's scheduling for this project. If you have any questions, feel
free to contact him at 651-773-5111 or me at 218-849-1505.
Sincerely,
